Headshot of Lara Beth Mitchell

Hi. You can call me Beth.

Before pixels, I painted. After obtaining a BA in Art Theory & Practice from Northwestern University, an MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute — plus a year studying Art History and Philosophy at the University of Sussex in England — I brought my artisitic sensibility, a measured rationality, and a deep curiosity about human behavior to my career in Interaction, User Experience, and Product Design.

I've spent the last 18+ years turning complex problems into experiences that feel simple, approachable, and delightful to use. My work spans apps, devices, and systems — from design tools to IoT hardware/software to retail and internal tools — always grounded in research and real user needs. I’ve led innovative designs from concept through launch, creating patented features, scalable systems design, and products with 5★ ratings.

I began my design journey with Swim Interaction Design Studio, a small boutique firm in San Francisco started by Gitta Salomon (UX Pioneer, ex-IDEO, ex-Apple). I was fortunate to work closely with and be mentored by Gitta during my 15+ years with Swim — designing for clients such as Gap, GoPro, and Dolby — and then to continue working together as we became internal employees at Cricut Inc. At Cricut, I learned how to work within a large organization, thereby expanding my purview from pure UX design to include strategy, mentoring, management, copywriting, and business impact. Whether in an agency or internally at a corporation, I lead with empathy, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to craft.

When I'm not working, I'm gardening, cooking, walking my dog, laughing with friends, reading, and — as much as possible — traveling:

Colleagues Say

Having served as Beth’s manager and colleague for nearly two decades, I can unequivocally say she is one of the most talented UX professionals I've encountered.
